Our People
Hugh is a corporate finance partner, advising on buying and selling companies, financing businesses (both debt and equity), joint venture/shareholder agreements and general company law. Hugh leads much of our banking work and acts for most of the UK high-street banks, as well as advising on inter-company loan arrangements and assisting borrowers with their loan facility and security documents.
Other clients include businesses in the health, IT, manufacturing and construction sectors. Hugh has also been involved in cross-border transactions with North America, India and Europe. Recent transactions include:
- advising HBOS Plc on the funding of Northbridge Industrial Services plc to acquire an Australian company;
- advising on various pharmacy and other healthcare transactions - including advising Frosts Pharmacy on its acquisition of Lyndhurst Pharmacies and Santander Corporate Bank on various acquisition, refinance and development loan facilities; and
- advising on start-up arrangements and subsequent acquisitions for a new UK money service business.
Hugh heads up our franchising team - Geldards are British Franchise Association members.
After gaining a BSc(Hons) in Engineering and spending nearly 2 years working as an Engineer, Hugh qualified as a lawyer in 1998 and joined Geldards in 2001.
Hugh is also Chairman of the Advisory Group Nottinghamshire Common Purpose.
